As I’ve stated in a previous post, I loathe a lot of abstract art. I tried to do an abstract piece recently, but I really didn’t know where it was going nor did I know when to stop working on it. Abstract work is something that I will TRY to improve on, but for now I suck.
This image is of the abstract piece I was working on. It started out as one thing, I painted over it and put a huge Kokopelli on it in gold (kind of defeating the purpose of it being abstract), then I added more to it and I finally said, “what the fuck is this?” I took this photo to keep as a reference because I liked certain areas of it, and some of the techniques I used. I just didn’t think the piece was working as a whole and it’s been sitting around for more than a year so, I painted over it with dark green paint.
It’s interesting when people discover weird things under layers of paint done by earlier painters and you get to see what they did to the canvas before it became a final work of art. I hope this one ends up looking really good!

this is an awesome piece—lots of great textures and depth. is the piece done/posted somewhere?

Thanks! I quite hated the piece and didn’t see it going anywhere and painted over it….It’s currently a putrid shade of dark green that I plan on doing something with eventually. I have an idea in mind, I just haven’t taken the time to actually work on it.
I can post a higher resolution image of it when it looked like this if you’re interested.
